2022-2023 THEATRE SEASON

SEASON THEME
EXPLANATION

TITLE
by PLAYWRIGHT
fall Play directed by SANDRA STRUTHERS

Doubt is a searing drama about the public facades we put up and the private lies we tell ourselves. Set in a Catholic school in the Bronx in 1964, Doubt focuses on tough-as-nails nun Sister Aloysius and her suspicions of misconduct by Father Flynn, the well-liked parish priest. As Sister Aloysius digs deeper to discover the truth behind what she perceives as wrong-doing, she drags Father Flynn, naive young nun Sister James, and the mother of the school's first and only Black student into her investigation. At once challenging and charming, probing and passionate, Doubt leaves more questions asked than answered, forcing the audience to grapple with their own instincts and biases. Doubt won the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and Tony Award for Best Play.
Proof runs October 6-8, 2022 in the Black Box.

9/10 TITLE
MUSIC & LYRICS by andrew lippa
book by marshall brickman & rick elice

9/10 musical DIRECTED BY Sandra Struthers

And you thought your family was weird. Gothic and gregarious, the Addams family lead by Gomez and Morticia have been pop culture staples since the first comic strips appeared in 1938. This smash hit Broadway musical introduces the Addams clan in a new story that will have the entire audience (living and otherwise) tapping their toes and snapping along. When sullen daughter Wednesday announces she's invited her new boyfriend and his very normal family for a dinner party, the Addams family must put on their best funereal wear and play their part -- but complications arise when the truly creepy and kooky Addamses begin to show their true colors. The Addams Family is a trick-or-treat for ages young and old.

HAMLET
by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
spring play DIRECTED BY GRANT SORENSON

Love is hard. But for bride-to-be sisters Lydia, Thyona, and Olympia, love is nearly impossible. Forced to flee their home country of Greece and take refuge at a picturesque villa on the coast of Italy, the three sisters seek asylum from the grooms who expect their hands in marriage. Matters get complicated when the three grooms -- Nikos, Constantine, and Oed -- arrive by helicopter to sweep their brides off to matrimonial bliss. The brides have other plans in mind, and what should be one big happy wedding turns into a much darker affair. Grappling with gender, identity, life and death, Big Love is a comedic drama that uses highly physical theatrical storytelling, music, and dance to confront the biggest questions human beings face: who to love and how to love them -- and how to love yourself.

Hamlet runs April 29-May 7, 2022 in Auditorium 2.
